Greetings Mitel Gurus. I am new to Mitel, worked with Avaya/Nortel PBX systems. I have a phone where the VMI light will not turn off. The user stated that she did not have any voicemails (new/old/saved). The display screen on the Inter-Tel 8622 phone states "No Messages" and when she called into the VM system, she received the "You have no new messages". I checked her mailbox inside the system and confirmed, but I did see a 2nd extension attached to the mailbox. After some digging, I learned that the 2nd ext was a hunt group ext that is not used anymore. I checked the 2nd ext's mailbox, which also had 0 messages. I removed this ext from her mailbox hoping this would solve the issue, it did not. I began thinking that maybe it was a phone issue, so I programmed a replacement phone. No change, VMI still flashing. Lastly, I deleted her old mailbox and created her a new one. No change, VMI still flashing. I am thinking that the VM system is out of sync. When working with Nortel CallPilot server and a PBX, this would occur, rebooting CallPilot & the session manager would sync the systems back up. Would this be the case here? I understand that it is all one system, which is why I am a little perplexed as to how it could come out of sync, but I am grasping at straws. Need some help with this. Thanks.

PS... We use the Mitel 5000 System

Have you tried going to the phone and doing the #18 and the extension number? #18 is the feature code for Message Wait - Deactivate

JH55407 - First I want to apologize for a late response to you and want to thank for responding. I tried your suggestion and it did not work. We did have to have the telco company that service our Mitel come out for another unrelated issued, so I asked them.

First question they asked was what the phone did when the message button was pressed, which I told them that it tries to dial one of the operators instead of the user's VM box. They immediately knew the problem and solution.

Here's what happens & happened in this case: If a phone is direct dialed from another internal phone and that phone is not answered, it activates the WMI light, even tho a message was not left. When the users presses the message key, it calls back the phone instead of calling the VM system.

Solution: To have the light go out, pick up the handset on the phone and press the message key. The dialed phone must be answered, also using the handset. Once the phone is answered, the WMI light deactivates. According to the techs, this will not work using the hands-free speaker.

Side note: This feature can be turned off on a Mitel 3000 system, but cannot on the Mitel 5000 (which we have).

Again, thank you and sorry for the late response.
