Does anybody have any idea what these files are meant for?

1) /var/preserve/oracle8/Exaab00000002*
Can we remove it to create space in /var filesystem??

2) /var/crash/<server> has files named vmcore.0 and unix.0 and also vmcore.1 and unix.1
Can we remove either *.0 or *.1 ????Which of these should be removed ???

The vmcore.x and unix.x files are dumps from system crashes.
Check when they are dated to see if you may require the information from these dumps. If they are old, they can be removed.

Thanx for the reply...
These files(vmcore, unix) are old...so they both can be removed....ok

But what about the first one ????Can we remove Exaaaaa....also ????

my Oracle Colleague says: never seen these Files under /var/preserve/...

I just googled for this: no match
--> remove them and cross fingers ;)

Hi,
I just searched this from internet ....thought to share it with u all...
If the editor ``vi''
session is killed (e.g., by stopping the editor with ctrl-Z and then
logging out). The contents of the editor buffer are copied from
the file ``/var/tmp/ExNNNNN'' and written into a file by the name of
``/var/preserve/USER/ExaaaNNNNN'' (where N is a decimal digit). This is also invoked at boot time to recover any saved
editor sessions which are in /var/tmp at boot time; the assumption is
that the editor was killed by a system crash.
