I have a new install of VMPro 8.0(1009). I set up my SMTP info during installation and it successfully checks the settings. But I am not getting email notifications for new voicemails.

What I did notice is that when I open the VMPro app from control panel, before it opens, I get a message saying that there is no email program associated with the requested action. If i click 'okay', it continues like normal.

Then if i go into VMPro->Administration->Preferences->General->Email, the MAPI check box is not available.

Any ideas?

the smtp check is only checking if the IP address and the port are available but not if the authentication is OK or if the smtp server is actually taking any data. Check from another PC with outlook if you can send with the settings you are using for the vm to email.

The settings work perfectly from other PCs through Outlook

Daft question you have turned the action on under the group and user , forward / copy etc , what happens if you go into control panel on the VM PC and check the smtp settings it will run a check and come back with good or bad.?

ok run VM debug on the vm pc make a call allow it to go to vm and check what debug says , you cvould also do the same with monitor and only filter VMpc email events.

you can also turn on logging in the VM client. says a restart is needed but thats not true. and then look through the log files when it tries to send a message.

It says this in the DbgView

Shouldn't it have the config info that I entered and tested (email, server, etc.)?

I am guessing this is what is preventing the email from sending

this looks suspicious have you got server requires auth ticked ?

if you have untick it.

Are you using mapi and have it set up on your exchange box ?

or at least configure an IP address in there to point to your SMTP server relay (e.g Exchange)

fixed, i went into the VMPro->Administration->General->Email->SMTP Sender. The 'Domain' was set to 'localhost', so i set it to our web domain, then it worked perfectly.

Heh, always the simpler things that make managing an Avaya environment a pain in the ass...

No so sure that I would call voice mail to email one of the simpler things. There are many things that have to be set correctly for it to work properly. Another way to say it is that there are many single items that will keep it from working correctly.

Shrugs: You have to go deeper into the rabbit hole as a phone tech to learn this stuff.

CargoSki i know where you are coming from but if embedded or vmpro at the base level the Knowledge Base does give you a really easy to follow run through as i think thebopps found out , it really is sometimes stareing you in the face , but point taken sean and myself where a little cruel so apologies but , i still maintain this is stuff we all should know if working on the kit.

You can select it but if it is not setup at the network then it will be selected but still not work. SMTP is precise in functionality. If the ip address of the ipo is not entered in the relay section of exchange it will fail to send.

Actually the send portion works and it is rejected on the receiver side. But vm to email will fail and that is what is perceived.

If using vmpro and smtp is rejected you can try using telnet to send a email to verify that it is not IPO. If Auth is required you can still use telnet helo and Auth Login command to compose the email.

Sometimes the email is too large and rejected by the net. Traces will show this rejection as size too large. SMTP replay server will have to be set with no size limitiation from the ip address of the vmpro computer or control unit to succeed.

Many ways for a vm to email to fail. Too many to call vm to email "simple". Changing a vm password is simple.

argosoft mail is a good place to start to practice , then build youre way into exchange etc, but the base settings are there for all to see and as long as its not a 4hr long email size should not matter with the wavs the ipo create, anyway i am agreeing with you but i still maintain , this guy will never do this mistake again as he figured it himself and no other problems occured...and debug would of highlighted any other issues you pointed out or at least pointed you in that direction....agreed or not ?
