I'm looking for a voicemail system that will answer and allow the caller to select a person or extension, make an outside call if the extension doesn't answer and send an email to the person called with the message the caller left.
Is that possible? Can it be done at a reasonable cost? I have a partner ACS v6 with a voicemail card. What other equipment/software would I have to buy?

Just a current Messaging R6 or 7 module. That and you need an mail server on the local network connected to the voicemail card. PVM cards will not do this.

What PVM card? One that I can slide into my Partner acs v6 in place of my current voice mail card? I use microsoft exchange (SBS2003). Is that the mail server on local network that you referred to? Thanks.

I think the sticking point here is the requirement that the auto attendant call an outside number, and take a voice mail (sent to the user as an e-mail) if there is no answer at the outside number.

Partner Messaging (not PVM card mail) can do the e-mail, but you're also going to need the calls to come in and out via a T1 and use the "cell phone connect" feature.

Does the Partner Messaging that will send email have to be the R6 or R7 module? What about Octel? Is Octel software or software/hardware? Thanks.

Hi chiptransisto,
The R1 does, but let's stick to new hardware. I would just let the VM take a message if the extension does not answer and email the result.
To the best of my knowledge, Octel is software/hardware.
