i've got an acs r3.0 at my home. i think i have a r2.0 voice mail card (prompts can't be interrupted with key presses).

what i want to do is simply use the voice mail as a replacement to an answering machine. pick up on outside lines after X rings, play a single greeting, and then record to a single mailbox.

i'm having a hard time figuring out how to do this. is it too simple of an application or am i just stupid?

Using System Programming:
#505 Hunt Group Ext. Line Coverage Ext Use this feature to identify an extension as the “owner” of a specific outside line, so the extension
can activate Call Coverage or VMS Cover for that line.

#206 Option 3 Group Call Dist to Assign lines you want answered by mail box

#310 Automatic VMS Cover to automatically route an extension’s unanswered
calls to the voice messaging system’s Call Answer Service after a specified number of rings so
the caller can leave a message.

#321 VMS Cover Rings to determine how many times the extension should ring before the call
is sent to the messaging system to be answered.

This will set your voice mail up as a simple answering machine. You'll need to access the voice mail box by dialing intercom > 777 > ext (assigned as line owner) > code ..to change greetings, review messages, etc.

#505 identifies members of a hunt group, not the "owner" of a line. Use #505 for group 7 to identify the voice mail ports, in your case, extensions 78 & 79.

#206 will identify which lines you want voicemail to monitor if unanswered, either to automated attendant by assigning the line or to an extensions mailbox as an owner of the line using option 3 AND identify line ownership in voicemail programing. I find #206 to be a bit clunky unless the lines will be covered by an automated attendant (which you don't want). I normally use #208 instead, as it is easier to verify line assignments in programing and requires no voicemail line ownership programing.

Finish up using #310 and #321 as outlined previously. Also use #306 to set transfer return extension for 78 & 79 to 10 or the primary mailbox extension.

The R2 card is pink in color and allows 4 mailboxes with 10 minutes of messages per box and a 1 minute greeting.

You'll have to use #208 to assign call cover for the lines, as the card mail doesn't have line ownership available. Be sure that the extension number covering the line has the line(s) assigned and has at least delayed ringing. Use #321 to set the number of rings before the mailbox answers the line.
