VM Pro 9.0 service keeps getting stuck on stopping

Just set up a new IPO 500 9.0 system for a client, but we have run into an issue where the VM Pro service will terminate unexpectedly and get stuck in the Stopping state. In this state, Windows Server 2012 R2 can't restart the service. Power settings are set to never turn off, NIC is set to not power off, HDD never spins down, and no firewalls are present. Debug simply shows the service stops and starts again and there is no detailed event in the Event Viewer to point me in the right direction. Anyone have any ideas?

Changed the Win2012 account pwd after install of VMPro? If so, the service needs to be updated with the new pwd as well.

Kind regards

Gunnar

Performed a brand new install of VM Pro two weeks ago and set the service to the local service account. Updated password before the re-install.

I created a completely new VM using Server 2008R2 and performed a fresh install. The service is still getting stuck on "Stopping" after terminating unexpectedly (event ID 7031). Of course, the service cannot restart because it never fully stops (event ID 7032). Does anyone have an idea of why the VMPro service behaves this way on both Server2012R2 and Server2008R2?

Bad install suite maybe? Tried downloading a fresh copy?

Kind regards

Gunnar

I didn't think of that, but maybe it is. I'll get another copy and try again.

Downloaded another copy from the vendor and installed over the weekend. Worked fine until this morning, now back to the same behavior. Windows Update is off, power on the NIC is not set to be turned off by the computer, ports are wide open and nothing else is installed on this machine. I have done a couple of Avaya system installs and managed a few, but this has to be the most difficult one I have dealt with yet.

Any other ideas why the VM Pro service might be failing and getting stuck in the "Stopping" state?

Certainly sounds like a PC/server issue to me, it's only software after all so anything that creeps in over time tends to be a local issue :)

Guess the only thing left to try is a physical server. I've already changed VMs, OSs, and hosts.

I have installed several VM Pro's on VMs. Host OS was windows 2008R2. What VM software are you using? VShere or Hyper-V

VSphere. I've had all good VM Pros on 2008 R2 virtual machines as well except this one. I placed a standalone desktop directly on the main switch with 7 Pro. I'm going to move the install over to it tonight, see if there is something wrong with the hosts or their switch.

VM Pro not supported on 6.0
Lock the vm to a specific server
Do not let VSphere try to move the VM.
Turn off HA

I have it on a standalone desktop now. Looks good so far. If it goes the rest of the week without crashing, then I'll call it successful! (And rdoubrava gets a star.)

rdoubra is talking about application server (or server edition) that is not supported on ESXi 6.0 (even if it is working). But the OP is talking about VMPro as a Windows service. That's far away from being the same. But I assume that Windows 2008R2 is not officially supported on ESXi 6.0 too. Didn't look for that to be honest.

It might not be ESXi, but both VMs I have used in this datacenter produced the same results, so I moved everything over to a standalone physical machine to attempt to eliminate the problem.

If we're gonna be picky I think that W2012R2 isn't listed as supported either for 9.0, only W2012, but unsupported ESXi or Windows isn't the issue here.

More likely it's something with their installation of W2012R2 or drivers/applications that come with it.

None of Avaya products: SE, application or VM Pro are supported on VSphere 6.0. You will need to wait for Avaya’s release of R10 for them to get fully supported. All these applications have issues. The VM Pro service stops, and you cannot start it back up. There are settings that you can change on VSphere, but on my testing I had still had issues. I know someone on this forum posted that they didn’t have issues on VSphere R6.
But on my testing in our lab all three applications were unstable.

Where do you find information about which ESXi is supported on Windows installed VM Pro?
