VM box filling up on it's own...

I have a merlin messaging system where one of the voicemail boxes seems to fill up with blank messages. The mailbox is on ext 135, and the messages are all from ext 7131, which is not even used. It's an unused ext in the system and it has no phone or vm box. Anyone have any clue how or why this is happening? I've been messing with it off and on, for a while, and I am out of ideas.

What is your area code? Is it 351 or 352? What's the chances of that extension being hooked up to a modem and someone is trying to hook up to the internet via a dial up provider. Instead of dialing 91351-222-2222 they are dialing 1351-222-2222.Is 7131 an analog port?
Or maybe someones voicemail is setup for outcalling and they forgot to put 9* before the number. What are the extension numbers of your voicemail ports?

Just a wild guess.

Under Maintenance, I would busy out EXTENSION PORT 7131 and then see who complains.

Then, find out what they are doing with this extesnion, as suggested above.

I agree, busyout or renumber the 7131 ext on the switch.
If 7131 is an extension You might also look at an extension report & see if there's a call forward set.

Logical ID 32 is 7131. What is the significance of logical Id 32? I should probably know that, but I don't.

Can you busy out just an extension? Looking at the "standard SPM" options, I can only figure out how to busy out the entire slot.

Here is the extension info on 7131:

What are the extension numbers of your voicemail ports?"

7131 is one of the vm ports. So are 7128, 7129 and 7130. I forgot to mention that in the last message.

What is your area code?"

865... No dice there...

It looks like voicemail is calling that extension, it could be someone's outcalling isn't set up correctly.

it could be someone's outcalling isn't set up correctly"

Anyone know an easy way to figure out what extention might be screwed up?

The printout shows that the extension is outward restricted and an ars restriction of 0 (default when voicemail is set up).Which means outcalling is not set up to work anyways. Login into the admin of voicemail and make sure nobody has outcalling turned on and if so turn it off.
Not only is the last port used for outcalling it also turns the message waiting light on and off so even if you could busy out the extension(7131) it would screw that up as well.

1043,

Is there any way to tell if outcalling is on for an extension, or do I just need to go through each ext and turn it off? If I log in to the VM sys, it doesn't seem to tell me if it is on or off, but it gives me the option to turn it on or off. Either I am missing something, or that's a quality interface...

Pete

Since you have Merlin Messaging, there are a couple of ways to find out which mailbox is outcalling to 135.

You can connect through the LAN port with the Messaging "GUI" software that came with your system.

Or, use Hyperterminal and a modem. Dial into your system, and then dial **3 at the Auto Attendant prompt. This will transfer you to an internal modem, which will prompt you to press enter. Then log in as "sysadmin", and use the numeric password from the System Administrator's mailbox.

Now you can capture a configuration report, and search it in Word to find anyone who's using outcalling.

not to throw a wrench in here or anything....but did anyone take notice that 7131 is a "voicemail port" but is not assigned to any calling groups or has any group covers assigned.

Good call jinxs,
Check the members of the group assigned for voicemail. call each extension and make sure it works, also is the message waiting light working when the message is left, also also,is ext 135 your lowest logical port?

Logging in with the lan port is my favorite way to program any Merlin or Partner Messaging.Makes Its like having an "easy button".
