Can one of you help with this problem

what I am trying to do is get a Vlookup to work but I am getting some very wierd results. I want a list of numbers 7000 to 7900 as the lookup value and I paste in a list of figures into the cells to the left. But the problem I have is if there are any missing (Which there can be) the lookup gives it a random value.

This may be a bad explanation so if anyone knows a lok about lookups can you email me at david.lerwill@btycellnet.net and I will email you the spreadsheet to look at.

You need to either:

1. Sort the list of numbers

or

2. Put a forth argument in your vlookup to let it know whether you want it to find an exact match or the closest match. So your formula should look like:

=VLOOKUP(A1,Sheet1!A1:B5,2,0)

The ",0" part tells it to find an EXACT MATCH

REMINDER TO EVERYONE: NEED TO "SHOW APPRECIATION" ...to GIVE a "STAR" by clicking the "Let ________ know this post was helpful" - located at the lower-left-corner of the posting.

Confirming that a suggested solution works is the first of TWO important steps. "dwlerwill" has confirmed that "Dreamboat's suggestion works, and this is good. However, it is ALSO importnat to take that "second step" - to "give the contributor a "STAR" to show appreciation for the time these contributors are taking to assist in solving your problem(s).

Recently, "Dreamboat" submitted a post entitled "talking about name dropping", which refers to a drop in her ranking from #1 position in "this" forum. (It appears she is still ranked #1 overall, having the highest number of stars).

Dreamboat (modestly) suggests that the reason for her "name dropping" is due to other contributors becoming more involved. This might be true, BUT it is STILL IMPORTANT to give EVERYONE a "STAR" when you receive a HELPFUL response to your posted problem.

Oops new to the forums did not know to do that. Done now though and in future will do tis

Regarding the whole "post was helpful" thing. I also find that as I'm browsing, I tend to check out posts that got stars, and almost always find something helpful that I can use in my daily job. VERY grateful to everyone who takes time here, it's an incredible service.
