Here is my problem. I am opening up 2 different excel files so effectively 2 excel.exe are showing in the task manager. When I try to run vlookup between one excel file to the other it does not work specifically the Table_Array does not allow me select the 2nd excel file. I have been told this is because I am using 2 different instances of excel. Is there a way for vlookup to get around this.

Excel's default behavior is to open files within a single instance. That isn't happening for you.

The quick and dirty solution for right now is to open the second file from within Excel. That will ensure they're both in the same instance and will allow you to perform a VLookup between them.

Long term, you can make a change in your file associations. If you'd like to pursue that option. just let us know!

The quick in dirty solution is what they are using for the time being. The reason is opening a 2nd instance is because we added this line to the file association("C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\EXCEL.EXE" /e "%1") to eliminate a slowness problem.

Well, they can't have it both ways.

They can either change the file association back to restore default behavior or deal with the inconvenience of having changed it.
