I am building a lab to create 3 VLANs.
VLAN1 ip address on port 1 is 192.168.1.3 255.255.255.0
Host on VLAN1 port 2 is 192.168.1.243 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.3
(this VLAN is connected to our local lan via a switch and the host can get internet connectivity. our local lan network is 192.168.1.x)

VLAN2 ip address is 10.1.100.1 255.255.255.0
Host on VLAN2 on port 20 is 10.1.100.2 255.255.255.0 10.1.100.1
(cannot get to the internet)

IP forwarding is enabled

I have a layer2 switch which connects to our LAN. it then uplinks into port 1 VLAN1 on the summit 7i giving internet connectivity to that host on VLAN1 port2.

I can ping the gateways for each vlan and their hosts but VLAN2 cannot get out to the internet.
I also created a static route using our local lan's default gateway 192.168.1.254.
VLAN2 cannot get internet and it cannot see the other computers on the domain. I even addressed other computers to be on the same network at VLAN1 but VLAN2 still does not see it.

What else do i need to do. please help or send me a config which i can set up including ip addresses and ill plug them in and see if it works.

thanks

Well, you're telling you're 7i switch about the rest of the network but the rest of the LAN doesn't know about your private subnet (vlan2). You'll need a static route in the LAN pointing network 10.1.100.0/24 to 192.168.1.3. You could also turn on a routing protocol within the 7i but unless you're the LAN guy you really shouldn't.

thanks for your help. the other switches on my network are just plain vanilla layer 2 switches that i cannot route with. im getting a couple of summit 48s so that i can try this out.

thanks again
