VLAN Creation

I was wondering if someone can answer this question.
Why do cisco switches like the catalyst 2950 allow to you crate a VLAN in privelage Exec mode by using the vlan database command & in glocal config using vlan <vlan id> ?
Do they do the same thing or is one better in a certain situation ?

They do the same thing.
The VLAN database will one day be eliminated. One way in not better than other. I prefer doing all my configuration in the global config mode. This way I can see all the commands (including the VLAN commands) when I do a show run.

As the previous user stated the vlan database will be depricated soon according to cisco. Though when you enter these commands in global mode it is still installed in the vlan.dat file in flash: . Use global mode the database command will be eliminated in future versions of IOS , it is kind of a bridge while they begin to phase it out.
