Hi!

I'm trying to setup a vlan for voip on HP Procurve models 1800 and 2810.

Here's what I'm trying to accomplish: There's a telephone connected to port 15 on the 1800. Port 1 on the 1800 is then connected to port 2 on the 2810. Port 17 on the 2810 is connected to a router with DHCP, which should provide the phone with an IP address.

I have setup vlan id 10 on the 2810. Ports 17 and 18 are untagged on vlan id 10 and the telephone on port 18 gets the right ip address from the router, so I know that is working.

What I'm having problems with is setting up vlan id 10 on the 1800. I've tried all kinds of settings, but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. So how do I get the vlan to work over two switches?

Thanks!

You create that same VLAN on the 1800 switch. You then tag the port you have connecting your switches together on that VLAN interface. So your config might look something like this if you are using port 24 on both switches as your uplink ports.

2810 Switch
Vlan 10
untagged 17-18
tagged 24
voice

1800 switch
Vlan 10
untagged 15
tagged 24
voice

As you see I also supplied the voice command to that vlan interface so tell the switch that it is a voice vlan and it will do QoS tagging on that VLAN.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply! Now the telephones are working, but the computers connected to the default vlan 1 on switch 1800 does not work anymore, ie. they cannot ping switch 2810.

Here's the setup now:

1800 switch
vlan 1
tagged 1
untagged 2-14, 17-20

vlan 10
tagged 1
untagged 15,16

2810 switch
vlan 1
tagged 2
untagged 2-16, 19-24

vlan 10
tagged 2
untagged 17-18

Port 1 (1800) and port 2 (2810) are the interconnecting ports.

Any ideas?

No sweat, I got it!

On switch 1800 I put port 1 PVID to None. I thought I read in the manual that it has no mission if the port is set to tagged, but that's what did it.

Guess I learned something today... Which was nice!
