Visual Studio SP5 and MSDN July 2001 problems

First I installed the complete MSDN July 2001. It works from the Windows Start menu and the FoxPro Help menu, but when I use F1 to bring up help it says "the compiled help (.chm) file does not contain context IDs". I don't have Crystal Reports installed, which was the only mention of trouble I could find in the MS knowledge base. I also tried to reinstall.

Next I tried to install the Visual Studio service pack 5 - thinking that it might help, but it won't install because it says "could not detect any visual studio 6.0 products." ALL of the VS6 products are installed (and working fine) on my machine.

Has anyone else run into either of these problems?

Well I just installed the July MSDN (I was busy and just got around to it), and you are right. This month no longer has a valid VFP 6.0 help file (Foxhelp.chm is a small "dummy" file). Instead it has Fox7help.chm in c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\MSDN\2001JUL\1033\, which is of course the help file for the recently released VFP 7.0.

If you want to have a valid VFP 6.0 help file, then you'll need to keep c:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\MSDN\2001APR\1033\ around with at least FOXHELP.CHM in it. Then go to Tools -> Options -> File Locations (tab), then go down to Help File and point directly at this "old" file. Your F1 should now work just fine.
