Hello there...i am new with V Foxpro..and i was wondering if anyone of u out there could tell me some disadvantage that visual foxpro have and also what it could not do as compared to others such as VBasic.thanks
VB is preferable as a front end for its smaller footprint and better integration or hosting of activex controls. With that there is also a ton of 3rd party add ons, controls etc. Not to say VFP does not make a good front end but in those respects VB excels. You didn't ask for VB disadvantages but one is certainly the lack of inheritance which VFP has had since 3.0 but it will have it next version. Also there is 10x, maybe 100x (probably 100x) the number of developers ('developers' may be kind, let's just call them 'users' <bg>) which makes for greater user support, resourses et al. I have found VB to be particularly speedy for desingning GUIs. VB's design inteface will spoil you quickly. VFP has a much more powerfull, reliable and faster data access then VB. As intgrating the two is a nuisence(sp?), I have used VB for less and less over the years. In fact I still have VB4... never upgraded it. That is how much I use it now. Pete, MS going to join all Visual Studio tools into something common - .NET, so VB and VFP will have no much difference at all. [sig]
Vlad Grynchyshyn
vgryn@softserve.lviv.ua
[/sig]
That is if the VFP community desires the CLR or Common Language Runtime. What do you think Vlad? It is so eearly any opinion is really premature but there will still be difference between VB, VC++, VFP etc? This is definately a topic for a different thread but I'm curious what does eveyone think of dotNet et al?
