Hi, guys,

I just installed Office XP on my computer. But since I don't know how to program in VB, I didn't install the Visual Basic for Application (Something like that, don't remember the exact name.)

I believe that VBA is used to write macros for the office applications.(By the way, is it the only use for VBA????)

But since I didn't install it, i know i won't be able to create macros. But what i am concerned is whether i would be able to RUN macro in a word or excel documents created by others?

THANKS

wouldn't have thought so

Rgds, Geoff

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colours but they all live in the same box.

Please read FAQ222-2244 before you ask a question

If you have installed Office XP...you "installed" VBA. It comes IN the applications.

Press Alt-F11. You go into the VBA editor. Actually it is called the VBE (Visual Basic Editor).

What is NOT installed by a default installation of Office is VBA Help. If you can, get Help installed....you will need it.

Yes, you can run macros. You should also be able to record them, as well asedit them

I know it comes in the application, but I manually chose not to install it. (We could choose to install what we need during the setup process.) Thanks though.

I want to be able to run macros from other people. But I didn't install that component because I know absolutely nothing about Visual Basic, either it is full-fledged language, or just VBA within Office.

thanks

sorry, just checked, it is indeed Help file, not the application itself.

thanks
