You are right also. I found some of my Hardware has a compatibility issue, as its a built in Sound 5.1 audio system, I will be contacting the suppliers very soon to try and get this resolved.
The audio system Sigmatel appears to have been sold on and the new owners are not supporting the hardware!!!
continues in another thread on SP1.

Arrghhh
No kidding I just got this response from Gateway support (in India?)
Please do not bother with the SP1 Update sir. Microsoft have released this without testing it properly.
Our advise is to turn off automatic updates.
They will release a second wave of updates, wait to see if this works.

You're lucky they didn't recommend turning your computer off to avoid further problems.

I would expect that of some small local shops, but I'm very surprised to hear that from official Gateway support.

I'm not. It's akin to, "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." "Don't do that."

It's just another way of saying they don't want to deal with the problem. If users weren't just a nuisance, would tech support have been outsourced?

Tried the update- downloaded thru Widows Update, installed, during restart it tried to finish, aborted and returned to original- a total of 2.5 hours! Everything is the same as before, will try again after doing ALL the driver updates from my manufacturer.

The test continues...

It rolled back because it found an incompatible component driver on your PC. Windows Update should not have offered SP1 as it is supposed know all the incompatiblies. I guess you are unfortunate in having one of Al Gore's known unknowns!
