Vista Rev 4.31.134 Help files

Hello all -

I am doing a little consulting for a company currently running Vista 4.31.134, and they don't currently have a service contract.

When I try to access the on line help, or run the tutorial, Windows Help application launches and all the chapters of the help are shown on the Contents tab. However, clicking on any topic results in an explorer like "The page can not be displayed" in the right hand pane of the help window.

Are the help files actually on Epicor's servers? Or Do I need to setup Vista to indicate where they might be on our server running Vista?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi,

We are on vantage and there is known bug on xp clients.

I don't know if this will solve the problem with vista. I would advise them to have a service contract.

Go into the registry to subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\HTMLHelp\1.x
Make a new key: ItssRestrictions
Right click on the new key (ItssRestrictions) and add a new DWORD value:
MaxAllowedZone
Modify the DWORD value and change to 4

Try it on a test machine(client), backup with registry before editing.

As I say, I have no idea if it will work at all.

That was probably it. I copied the compiled help files from the server to my desktop and they open just fine.

Since, I'm only a consultant for the company that is using Vista, they've got the PC I'm on locked up pretty tight (and rightfully so!). They have their IT guy looking into it.

The IT guy added the changes to the registry, and everything now works as expected. At least the Help files anyway.
