I can’t seem to get a network connection on my laptop anywhere. I think I had an automatic update from Microsoft windows defender sometime last week and since then I haven’t been able to get any network connection. My laptop has Windows Vista. It doesn’t seem like I can uninstall windows defender and I can’t seem to figure out a way to remove the update. Do you have any suggestions or how you can help?

Thank you.

How to repair the operating system and how to restore the operating system configuration to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista

Have you tried typing Netsh Winsock Reset from within an elevated Command Prompt to see if that can fix any possible Winsock corruption?

Can you connect via "Safe Mode with Networking"? If you can then you can use these to isolate any process, including Defender, that might be the problem.

Are you using a wireless connection? If so, go into netsh wlan and remove all profiles. I find I sometimes have to do this if I am roaming a lot.

Also do "arp -d *" from an elevated command prompt to clean out the arp cache.

thanks guys......
