I have been trying to change the logon type to allow mt enter my logon name instead of chosing the name. I want to logon the way I do at work. anyone know how to do that in Vista?

You have to set the policy for interactive logon. Read the following site:

The Welcome Screen has replaced the Classic Login Box as a login procedure in Vista. Have a look at these and see what options are available to you.
