I have Vista Home Edition and I am not able to get a ip address on a switch that is on a network.

There isn't a problem with the switch because when I connect another computer that doens't have Vista it picks up a IP address. Is there something I need to setup on Vista to get a connection?

When I go to the Network and Sharing center there is X going through the line that goes to the Internet but it states that I am connected locally but I can't get a ip address from my network.

Does Diagnose and Repair do anything when run from the Network and Sharing Center?

Do you see any different results if you run in "Safe Mode with Networking"?

I am assuming you are using a router? How exactly do you have do you physically have your network set up? I know this might seem pedestrian but have you tried new network cables, another NIC or moving to another port on the switch? All of which can go bad at any point.

Have you tried using a static IP address to see if you can access your network or the internet?

Cheers
Rob
