I installed Vista Business edition 2 weeks ago and for some reason today it failed to boot. The error I'm getting is:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause...

File: \Windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe
Status: 0xc0000428
Info: Windows cannot verify the digital signature of this file

Every time I try safe mode it goes back to this error screen.
I tried Disable Driver signature enforcement but that goes to a quick flash of the Blue screen followed by an automatic reboot.
Last known good configuration did nothing.

I tried to boot and repair from the Vista cd but that was no help.

I'm out of options I can possibly choose from.

What could be the cause of this problem? I haven't installed any hardware recently. Any suggestions how I can get my system up and running again? I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Is it possible somehow my ntkrnlpa.exe file got corrupted?

I guess the next thing I'm going to try is to boot the hard drive as a secondary hard drive in another system and overwrite that file. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm running a very basic system:
AMD X2 +3800, Gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2G mobo with onboard video, 2GB Kingston DDR2667 PC25300 Ram, 100GB Maxtor IDE HD

I tried the F8 and "Disable Drive Signature Enforcement"

It Blue screened real quickly and rebooted

No luck

I also tried replacing the ntkrnlpa.exe file but nothing changed

The link that I mentioned talks about drive assignments on the second page. Have you installed a new hard drive recently or change the boot priority in the BIOS?

Also can you disable the Automatic Restart on the F8 menu so that you can let us know what the blue screen message is?

Also have you recently enabled Bitlocker?

no new hardware installed and no changes to the bios
the computer was running fine for the past 2 weeks until today

I tried to disable automatic restart but it didnt make a difference. The blue screen message flashes too quick and I cant get anything out of it

Did not enable bitlocker.

I was able to boot from the Vista Dvd and got to System Recovery Options so at least I can get to a command prompt now and it picks up my USB drive so at least I can backup files I need

what a headache...

I'm not sure what I can try next but someone on another forum mentioned it's possible that its related to the nvidia motherboard drivers
