I'm trying to upgrade my bios but need to make my floppy bootable, i know how to do it in XP but never done it in VISTA as all the files have changed to BOOTMGR, BCD and WINLOAD.EXE and so on.

What files need to be on the floppy to make it bootable, can anyone recommend a program to do it for VISTA?

Just go to and download any bootable disk. Shouldn't matter what OS as long as it is bootable to update your BIOS right? I'd grab a Win 98 SE download.

Cheers
Rob

The answer is always "PEBKAC!

thanks for that i managed to upgrade my bios, now it displays my amd 6000+ dual core.

For future reference, even in Vista, when you select the option to Format a Floppy, you are presented with the option to create a MS-DOS Startup Disk. This will boot your machine to a Non-Windows DOS prompt and allow you to access .exe files on the Floppy or any other FAT or FAT32 partition.

Wow, where can I get one of those AMD 6000+ dual core systems?

smah, i just got mine off ebay for £115, don't know if you're american or not so not sure what that is in dollars but fairly cheap for a dual core processor.

i have the intel E6400 and think its great, better than the AMD as i believe its over clocking ability far better. I've always had the AMD but this time i went with intel core duo and made the right choice.

i never overclock processors, keep them as they are. I know if i overclocked mine it can go to 3.4ghz but 3ghz at the moment is doing me just fine. I've always had AMD, never had intel but AMD has never broke down on me.
