On MS Vista, pressing F8 at boot gives you the boot menu. How can I set Vista to always display that screen for at least 30 seconds then go on to a default selection if no user selection?

Thanks

Can you clarify which F8 function you are referring to? The one that may bring up the Bios options of selecting a device to boot from initially, or the F8 option a few seconds later during actual booting which brings up the Safe Mode options screen?

The Safe Mode options screen can be set to display via the MsConfig tool.

I don't know how to force the Bios boot device options screen other than pressing the key to inaugurate that action. Maybe you have some option in your particular Bios.

Many third party Boot Managers could provide you with a choice of booting devices.

Some leads to Bootmanagers (you can Google for more)

I am looking for the the F8 function to get to the list of options for Windows "Safe Mode", "Safe Mode Command Prompt" and others. I just want it to come up for a bit and also be able to set which is my default selection.

Thanks

Try MsConfig from Start Run, look at the Boot tab in there.
There is a Timeout settings button in there too. I haven't checked to see what happens when the Timeout completes, whether it starts Vista normally or what, you can try that and see what happens and let us know.
