Working with non-profit and no money, we have a network of 5 with xp home. have to buy a new computer. it will come with a free upgrade to vista. can I network vista with xp home if the vista cpu acts as the client/server? How many coneections will it allow?

You can network vista with xp home - haven't checked on allowed connections, but would suspect it will be same as XP (so bottom 2 versions probably allow 5 connections, top 2 probably allow 10). I'll post back if I find out (and nobody else does!)

linney, nice link and nice info document, but I still can't find the answer you so graciously supplied. But you're telling me that, like xp, vista will have a home version that will allow 5 connections, and not 1 but 3 other versions which will allow 10 like xp pro??

very interesting once I figured out where to look.

I am hesitant to jump right in on an operating system for all the known reasons. I still have access to XP Pro. Think I should just use that for 6 mon to a year first??
