We are running Vision FS on SCO Openserver 5.0.4. The root filesystem filled up yesterday. We have resolved this issue now, However Vision FS will not start. We get the following errors as shown below. Has any one any ideas?

Many Thanks,

# ./visionfs start

Have you rebooted? If not, then I would find and manually kill any errant VisionFS processes.

Can you display the contents of /usr/vision/vfsdata?

Code:
# ls -l /usr/vision/vfsdata
total 8
drwx--x--x 9 root sys 512 Jan 4 04:00 logs
drwx--x--x 2 root sys 1024 Jan 22 2008 naming
drwx-wx-wx 2 root sys 512 Oct 21 2004 queues
drwx-wx-wx 2 root sys 512 Oct 21 2004 spool

"Proof that there is intelligent life in Oregon. Well, Life anyway.

Just to confirm I have rebooted the server and still get the error messages on start up.

The contents of /usr/vision/vfsdata are:

# l
total 16
drwx--x--x 9 root sys 3584 Jan 7 08:30 logs
drwx--x--x 2 root sys 1536 Dec 11 13:32 naming
drwx-wx-wx 2 root sys 512 Dec 2 2005 queues
drwx-wx-wx 2 root sys 512 Nov 4 1999 spool

I would check the print spooler system - there were perhaps some vfs queues in progress when root filled up.

Also, did you run a complete fsck after you cleared out some files to get some space?

1) goto single user mode from console
2) enter:
fsck -ofull

See if it reports any problems.

5.0.4 is beyond old - you need to be thinking about an upgrade before the old hardware gives up the ghost permanently.

Sorry for the delay in replying, but I have just managed to get this working using the following advise:

"If the VisionFS server will not start then go into /usr/vision/bin and run ‘./visionfs start’. If the server complains about a corrupt profile then cd to /usr/vision/vfsprofile and type ‘ls -l’ which will give you a list of files and symlinks. You need to find the location of current.prf which will look something like:

current.prf -> /var/opt/K/SCO/visionfs/3.00.917/usr/vision/vfsprofile/current.prf

Create a backup of this file somewhere then copy the file called backup.prf in /usr/vision/vfsprofile over the top of the current.prf file in /var/opt/K…

Try starting the visionfs server again (/usr/vision/bin/visionfs start) and it should now hopefully start."
