I have several prnters set up with visionfs hooked to XP machines that work fine. I added another a week or so ago and it worked for a day. Now when I issue an lp -dhploria .profile from root I get this message:

Subject: Status of lp request hploria-107662

Your request hploria-107662 destined for hploria
encountered an error while printing on printer hploria.
Printing stopped with an exit code of 1.

Reason for failure:

Failed to print job sent to printer - hploria (Thu Apr 13 09:26:09 EDT 2006):
/usr/vision/bin/visionfs print //Loria/hp /.profile --noprompt --user vfsprint --password vfsprint
Error: ErrSMB - Unknown SMBStatus (194)
Unrecognised server error
The print server could not process the request

I've removed and reinstalled the printer in visionfs, checked path names and shares but it just isnt working. ANy ideas?

By any chance could this be a WINS problem with how the xp box is listed in the wins server?

I recently installed a new nic and for a moment it came up in dhcp. Then when I put in the old static IP, I forgot to enter my visionfs box and the dc as the wins servers. So, wins saw my computer as .81 but I had it as .12.

So no visionfs printing till I entered the wins stuff.

Take a look at that maybe.

Run this command manually until you get a reply:

/usr/vision/bin/visionfs print //Loria/ --user vfsprint --password vfsprint

When this works, you should get a list of the shared printer(s).
Things to try: (in no particular order)
1) Substitute the IP address in place of "Loria" above.
2) Check the Event logs on Loria right after a failure.
3) Temporarily disable the XP firewall (or any other firewall) on Loria.
4) Try a different username/password pair.

I've never found a good reference to help decode the SMB error messages like yours:
"Error: ErrSMB - Unknown SMBStatus (194)"
If somebody has one, please forward the link.

"Proof that there is intelligent life in Oregon. Well, Life anyway.

I'll check the wins stuff

I did run the command with admin username password and got this:

HP <Active> 0 jobs

Error: ErrIPC - Unknown IPCStatus (65)
Unknown error
The print server could not process the request

another unknown error. I'll sub the ip next
