I just had my version of Visio 2000 upgraded to Visio 2003 Standard version and I can't seem to find the appropriate place to start a reverse engineer of a SQL database.

Is this no longer a feature or would I need to have the professional version?

All of the online help I've seen says that I need to go to New --> Database --> Reverse Engineer. I do not have the Database option under the Create New Document.

This article seems to suggest that you need 2003 Pro

I just recently went through the same tumult, yes, you do need Professional to Reverse Engineer a database.

I verified this in the Visio 2003 feature comparison.

Pretty unfortunate they made someone upgrade to obtain this core functionality.

If you can't be troubled with upgrading, I'd suggest Dia, on Source Forge there is a script project called "dia2sql" which will forward and reverse engineer SQL Server databases. A bit more primitive than Visio, but it works and it's free.

Thanks for the input, JStandard.

I ended up having the IT guys reinstall Visio 2000 since you can reverse engineer with that version since we didn't want to spend the $400 just for that feature.

I will have to look into Dia, I don't mind primitive!
