For 2 days now I'm having the following problem:
The slidebar at the side of directories or programmes suddenly flies up or down and there is nothing I can do to prevent it, making looking at directory content or internet sites near to impossible.
The only way to be able to look at something is to resart the PC and view it as soon as it has restarted but after a while the problem returns.....
I scanned with Norton and AntiVir and found nothing.
Also Zonealarm gives no notice of anything trying to enter or leave the system....(so no trojan?)
I'm at a loss here, I hope you can help

In my experience problems like yours are usually caused by either the mouse software or the driver for the video card. Does it happen in safe mode? Go there and see.

I never knew XP had a safe mode.
How do I get there?
By the way the problem has worsened the slider now just flies up or down and stays there absolutely unmovable!!!

I don't know, I don't have XP. You might want to ask how to get to safe mode in the XP forum. But the reason I suggested that is because if the problem is not present in safe mode then it's definately caused by either a driver or a program like your mouse software. Reinstall your mouse software and/or your video card's driver and see if the problem goes away. That's about as much as I can help you with XP as i've never used it.
