Well, without digging into detail for now, you could try this solution, as was mentioned in other threads, assuming you're able to get to the web from another PC, download an ISO image, and burn it, then boot the infected machine from the new CD:

I didn't have success with it personally, but many others have so far.

Then perhaps it'll at least free up McAfee to do its thing. Of course, you could also shop around for other options - free or paid versions of AV programs than McAfee. I'm not a fan of their software - though I suppose they are better than some.

Step 1: Turn off System Restore...

How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows XP

Step 2: reboot computer into SafeMode with Networking...

A description of the Safe Mode Boot options in Windows XP

Step 3: Download MBAM save it as TEST.EXE...

run it and do an update, then run a QUICK scan first, deleting everything it finds, then do a THOROUGH scan and again delete everything it finds...

Report back, with a. what it found, b. a NEW HJT LOG, and c. if it helped...

The old LOG, these need to be deleted:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: ddcBTNGA - ddcBTNGA.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: ljJAPGVM - ljJAPGVM.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: ssqricvu - C:\WINDOWS\

also the following are not necessary at BOOT time, and can be fixed using HJT...

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

also I will advice you to UPDATE your JAVA to the latest version, and THAT running two AntiViral solutions is always a NO NO...

running two AntiViral solutions is always a NO NO
Ben,

Why is it always a "NO NO"? Once upon a time, it was considered additional security to run one virus scanner followed by another to find anything the first one missed. Granted, this was a long time ago and lots of things have changed since then.

(For the record, I'm not arguing that you're wrong; I'm trying to understand the reason.)

I wasn't able to run MBAM in safe mode.

What happened when you tried to run MBAM? Did you Save As and renamed it TEST.EXE, before executing it?

Yes, I renamed the file to TEST.EXE and nothing runs in Safe mode with networking.

Don't know if this helps but when I go to google and type anything antivirus related I get redirected to another site. On the bottom before I get redirected this js.doubleclick.net shows up.

Ok, this has helped in a few instances, where I could not clean out a PC with Windows running...

Download this on a clean PC and burn it to a CD...

Avira Rescue System CD

then boot the PC with that CD and run full system scan...

alternatively (or inclusively) you can also download the following:

Dr. Web LiveCD

both will scan windows partitions and clean out any badies they find...

What do you mean by boot pc with that cd?

Both of the tools that BadBigBen has suggested create cd's that you boot your computer from. You put this in your cd drive and reboot the computer. When the computer starts, you might be prompted to boot from the cd (or it might happen automatically), then you run the utilities on the cd.

Try the following program to clean up the likely TDSS infection preventing you from launching MBAM.

Google and download GMER and then run it on your computer.

Agreed with above. Get those cleaned out and then reboot into safe mode.

Do this first though before running MBAM again. Make a COPY of MBAM.exe in the SAME folder and call it dipstick.exe (or whatever), but keep the original MBAM.exe in the folder. Why?? Because if the computer wants to run a scan upon startup to clean something up, it will be looking to run MBAM.exe and it won't find it if you RENAME MBAM to Dipstick. So, leaving a copy lets them both run.

(Typically, that's the biggest problem I have with a system is if MBAM won't install/run due to a running process. Other than that, if you can get it to run, it's fixed 100% of the problems I've encountered.)

Run the full scan in safe mode. Let it clean everything it found.

Reboot to regular mode and then do another full scan and clean everything it finds.

Reboot and follow up with a full antivirus scan using an updated virus program (AVG, Avira, Antivir if you don't have a paid program).

Let us know what happened.
