virtual siite /sub domain

I have a question.I have a web developer that
wants to create virtual sites in the form of sub domains.
example

http://www.subdomain1.mydomain.com

http://www.subdomain2.mydomain.com

etc ......

instead of

http://www.newsite.com

Is this possible ? Rather than expeirment on our production box I would hope
to get some input from others.

Yes that is the cheapest way of doing it..
only one valid domain name nedded

Sure, that's very easy, so long as you/they have access/control of the DNS servers, simply add the new server/IP to DNS, and in your httpd.conf file, add the <VirtualHost> directives for the new Virtual Web, just as you would for &quot;

http://www.newhost.com&quot;.
