Hi there,

I have upgraded a good few Avaya IP Office systems to 8.1 but all have had Voicemail Pro / Preferred. Upgrading to 8.0.x and then 8.1.x has always generated a virtual essential license. I am aware if I ever need to replace the CCU hardware I will lose the virtual essential license and need to generate one.

I now have to upgrade a site which has embedded voicemail. Does anyone know if you still get a virtual essential license? Im thinking you dont. I can understand if you had Voicemail Pro before the virtual essential license is applied to get you to Preferred. However if you only have embedded then you have no current licenses.

Thanks

Bob

Check the correct upgrade path. If it's an < 7.0, you need to upgrade to 7.0 first, then to 8.

In the 7.0 upgrade, the virtual essential licence is generated.

I think you can upgrade to either 7.0.x or 8.0.x and then go to 8.1.x. My concern is if the customer only has essential edition does it still create a virtual license?

Thanks

Upgrade to 7.0 first, and you will see that it appears in the licences.

According to the V8.0 release docs it was only customers with preferred edition that were given the Virtual Essential addition license.

I tend to specify the essential edition regardless as it causes less problems later
