Hi,

I have a new ASP web application which I set up in Internet Service Manager (in server "SERVER1") by creating a new Virtual Directory (let's call it "mywebapp") under "Default Web Site".

When I try to access the site at (on the server), it loads fine. But when I access I get the error "File not found".

So I created the same virtual directory under another existing website in Internet Service Manager (called "Website2"), I am now able to access the application using
Why is this the case? I've checked the config for both "Default Web Site" and "Website2" and they both look identical to me. Is there something I'm missing? I would prefer to put mywebapp under Default Web Site.

WOuld appreciate any help, esp if you've encountered this before. Thanks much!

check for a sub folder in your root that might have the same name as the share this can cause a conflict

Thanks for your replies.

I right-clicked on "Default Web Site" and chose New -> Virtual Directory. I didn't use any command line commands.

DreXor - my sub folder names are unique.

Thanks!

I'm sorry I don't understand. I didn't use any ASP commands to create the folder....

Yes, I've created a default document "login.asp" and moved it to the top of the list. Does this affect the functionality?

Thanks.

This is really a question about IIS.

I'm assuming you aren't using the stripped down version of IIS that comes with Win2k or WinXP and ARE using an actual server.

If this is the case then right click on the Default Web Site and select properties.

There, on the Web Site tab you'll see the Website Identification section that includes the Description, IP Address and TCP Port.

To the right of IP Address there will be a Settings or Advanced button. Click it.

There you'll see the Multiple Identities for this Website section. Add one with the default IP, Port 80 and set Hostname to SERVER1.

Now it should work.

Thanks logicalunatic!

I think this will work! Appreciate it! A star for you!
