Virtual Directories or Web Server Mappings 1

How do you set up a virtual directory (sometimes called a web server mapping) in Apache? I want to be able to reuse images on various subsites of a site, and I would like to just be able to specify the path to the images as /images/image1.gif regardless of which directory I am in. Anybody know how to do this with Apache?

Hi,

I think what you are looking for is the 'Alias' directive :

Alias /images /var/

http://www/images

where '/var/

http://www/images'

is the physical directory. Then

http://127.0.0.1/images/my.gif

refers to '/var/

http://www/images/my.gif'

. Using 'Alias', the physical directory can be entirely independent of the DocumentRoot hierarchy. See -->
