The log entry below is the result of a 5340 attempting to register. The set gets and IP address, begins downloading firmware and then power cycles.

Anyone have some insight into how I might resolve this version mismatch? A brand new 5330E connects without issue. This site has about 50 5340's which will be moving from an 3300 R7.1.3.4_2 over to the vMCD.

Description/Symptoms
Symptoms= 5330 and/or 5340 with older firmware fail to upgrade firmware when connected to MCD 4.0 SP4 or MCD 4.2 or higher. These 5330 and/or 5340 IP Sets are not able to boot up successfully and continue to reset/recycle

MCD 4.0 SP4 and MCD 4.2 or higher currently includes 5330/5340 firmware version of 4.1.0.22.

Body/Solutions
Root Cause Analysis
5330 and 5340 with firmware version of 1.0.x.x, 1.1.x,x, and 1.2.x.x cannot upgrade directly to Firmware 4.x.x.x.

5330 and 5340 with Firmware 1.3.x.x or higher can upgrade directly to firmware version of 4.x.x.x

Impact Scenario:
a> Customers upgrading from Rel 9.0/MCD 4.0 to MCD 4.0 SP4 or to MCD 4.2 should NOT experience this issue because the firmware version for 5330/5340 in Rel 9.0 is 1.4..x.x and is compatible when upgrading to 4.x.x.x. firmware.

b> The most likely scenario is that these customers have these 5330/5340 in their existing inventory and have never been deployed. These phones may appear to be brand new but may still have an older version of firmware preloaded in the factory.

Workaround
To allow these new phones with older firmware to upgrade to firmware 4..x.x.x, please download FW_5340_1.6.3.8_migrate.zip and apply these migration firmware on MCD 4.0 SP4 and/or MCD 4.2 or higher if required.
