Viewing the content of a magnetic tape

Can anyone tell me how to view the content of magnetic tape please.

I just found out that to be able to view the content of a magnetic tape you will need to use "restore"

Or you could use the -t option of tar to view the table of contents. on solaris it would be
tar -tvf /dev/rmt/0n | more

to have all of the files on the tape listed. on freebsd the tape device file may be at a different location

yeah thats an option but I didn't use tar to backup my files. thanks anyway...

did u try amanda b4? just trying to find out if its a good backup appz...
