i'm having trouble viewing secure pages through internet explorer..

first i was using 5.5 and then i loaded up my favorites.. and tried to head to my chase account.. it wouldn't let me see the page.. then i thought, maybe chase was down.. so i went to my ameritrade account.. same thing.. checked aol email through the web.. does fine until i hit a secure page.

now, i just recently reformatted my computer.. i have everything so set.. that nothing usually new comes about.. i have all my software on two cds.. drivers, the whole nine.. on this system.. i can say this is about my 12th reformat..

anyone know what could be causing this?? i installed internet explorer 6.0 regretfully hoping it would fix the error.. but that hasn't worked for me either.. i've messed around with the advanced settings.. SSL 2.0 and 3.0 were both checked.. still no avail.. i set security settings to both low, and high.. nothing..

got any suggestions?

thanks in advance.

What is the exact respone you're seeing? Is it a 404? a 500? a DNS error? a Timeout? ---

Hm.. strange (oh well, not really strange, but has usually little to do w/ a secure connection).

Just an idea: try entering the same URL as you did, but using a http protocol instead of a https protocol (taking care not te enter any private details, ofcourse), just to see if you can work that way? (some (ie. a lot) secure secure servers also run the same data through plain old http).

Also, you could try eg. something like

ping <theserveraddress>

(in https://[red]this.that.someserver.com[/red]/somemorestuff.html the red part is the server address), or a tracert to the same server - just to see if your system is able to resolve it... Or post an url so we can see (stripping of any embedded UIDs/Passwords ofcourse)...

That's all I can think of right now...

Sorry mate,

I have just read your post again and noticed that you already mentioned this..

Sorry again, I should have read the full post first..

Try clicking Help > About Internet Explorer and double check the encryption strength. If that fails, try to repair explorer or click on the Reset web settings button.

Hope this helps

ozispimp,

Look into Tools|Internet Options|Security|Trusted Sites and uncheck Require server...Also, under Privacy move the bar button up or down to activatte the Default bottom. Then hit Default|Ok. Finally go to Programs|Reset Web ...|Ok. Get out of Internet Options, close all instances of IE and try again. Hope these tweaks take care of it!
