People without knowledge of HTTP_AUTH often put an index page in just so the general viewing public cannot see a list of the files contained within. So why do you want to do this? To gain access to other peoples sites? To view personal information? I know two or three ways to do the above, but I would never post them on a public forum or consider giving them out to shady characters. I would be interested in reading your response.
