Hello,
I am in the process of rebuilding a small network running Small Business Server 2003. We have a block of ip addresses from AT&T. We use 1 IP address to point traffic to our server using a cisco router (which handles to T1) and a linksys router. The DMZ goes to the web server and another port goes to a switch panel to host the other 8+ computers.

They all have ip address 192.168.1.xxx
The problem is that they cannot type into there browser and go to our web sites.

It seems like the linksys router doesn't like handling a request to go get our website (which happens to be on the same network). Sort of like a loop.

Is this a TCP/IP configuration problem, or DNS problem?

Thanks,
Tim

DNS. Are you running your own DNS server?

Yes: add an A record for the web site name ( and internal IP address (192.168.1.xxx)

No: edit each PC's hosts file and add this entry

In the DNS server, under the "Foward Lookup Zones"

I have a zone "site1.com",
---I also have a " HOST(A), 192.168.1.50

I have a zone "site2.com",
---I also have a " HOST(A), 192.168.1.50

I have a zone "site3.com",
---I also have a " HOST(A), 192.168.1.50

The client computers all have 3 DNS servers list,
192.168.1.50
12.???.???.21
12.???.???.22

I was told it was because of the cheap linksys router, but we had access to the sites before. So I know its possible.

I also have tried using the HOST file on there computer.

I did this on the actual server and a client machine. Thanks for taking a few minutes to help me with this.

-----------site 1-------
Server: gc._msdcs.rvmarketinginc.local
address: 192.168.1.50

Name: address: 192.168.1.50

-----------site 2-------
Server: gc._msdcs.rvmarketinginc.local
address: 192.168.1.50

Name: address: 192.168.1.50

What webserver are you using? And what happens when a client machine goes to each site? Any errors?

Just installed/semi-setup SBS 2003.

When a client logged onto the network goes to the site, it generates a 404 not found error. I have another client computer that has some problem getting permission to join the network. Its visible to all the computers, but just not able to log on and use the resources of the server. This computer can go to the site using the FQDN (qualified domain name). I have tried to use the HOST file and this doesn't help either.

Right now, if they want to visit our site (to handle customer sale calls), instead of going to
they have to type //rvm/sites/oursite/products.asp.

But this can be only a temporary fix.
