I posted this under Win98, but I think it belongs here...sorry for the double post

I have a Compaq Presario 350 mhz, with a 17" CTX monitor. As we all do, I decided to reformat my drive and reinstall everything. The computer was slowly down and hanging alot. I've loaded and unloaded many programs over the years so I figured I'd start fresh.

My problem is now the only screen resolution I can get is 640x480. The WIN98 that came with the system I think was the first version. When I reformated I installed WIN98 Second Edition. In the old version, I could pick the adaptor CTX - 1765GM from the menu. WIN98SE doesnt have that brand listed.... what can I do? I even reformated and used the version on the Restore disk that came with the computer. .... but nothing.

There is no video card, the monitor plugs directly into the board sorta. Now the monitor didnt come with the computer I already had it, but had no problem with the resolution. I have a restore disk but it doesnt have the same version of Win98, but if I use it will it accept my Monitor. I went to the compaq site to see about the video driver, of course they were of no help. Well then you need to find the video drivers from compaq, othewise yer out of luck, also there is a video card (well in your case its called Onboard video, where theys stick the video chipset right on the motherboard) if you are able to disable the onboard video, (absolutly last resort) you can go out and buy a nice video card if you have an AGP Slot , if not if you just want video , dont expect to game off it, and want good res, you can get a pretty cheap PCI, also try to find your Compaq diskette's, Win98 CD isnt going tohave your drives, but your Compaq diskettes that came with the system should. With onboard video, can I go out and buy and install a card, without disabling the onboard video.

If not, how do I disable it.

I dont game. I just need my resolution back. Alot of the software I have doesnt work with only 16 colors...

Thanks for your help [sig][/sig]

2X AGP Graphics Card: .......... 2X AGP (133 MHz Accelerated Graphics Port)

ATI 3D Rage LT Pro ATI Motion Compensation Hardware

4 MB 100 MHz SyncGraphics video memory Laser-sharp
MPEG2 video playback maximum non-interlaced resolution of 1280 x 1024 (when supported by monitor)

This what I found about about the video. So I guess i need to load the ATI 3D Rage... part.... [sig][/sig]

yea if that's your chipset, then goto Ati's site. [sig]<p>Karl<br><a href=mailto:kb244@kb244.com>kb244@kb244.com</a><br><a href= </a><br>Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)<br>
