i'm looking to upgrade my video card so that i can use 3ds max more reliably and faster... does anyone have any suggesstions as to what i should get? my price reange is pretty low (under 200), i spent all my money on max.... hehe

Permedia 2 based or Permedia 3. Has Open GL and heidi. Low cost and reasonably fast. Not as good as some others but the price is low.

I've come up against this problem recently when trying to order a new computer (long story). My present computer uses an ATI Rage Pro, but it isn't good enough. I am now recommended an Open GL Elsa 32B Synergy II. Note, even some top end graphics boards exhibit problems depending what you want to do. See for qualification reports.

ATI has an OpenGL driver for rage pro you may want to try. I'm using it and it seems to work well.

I am using an ATI rage also and it works fine with MAX and with my other 3d progs...Poser , Maya , Autodesk VIZ , etc... it works fine with all....

Wow, this is the same problem I had a few days ago. Until I updated the drivers, I had no OpenGL, this is because the early device driver doesn't support it. But fortunately all of ATI Rage Pro series use the same driver. An updated Driver is dated April 2, 2002 and it appears to be the very latest...and yes, this driver DOES support OpelGL.

Here is the website to download from:
This might only be suported by Windows XP, I'm not sure. The one you might want to try is the "Alternate Driver".

Good luck!
