could anyone tell me a good video editing solution.i have now a asus v-6600 and the video editing is very poor.i would like to edit my and my family's old home movies.the problem is i can get any framerate at full screen.i know there is separate cards that will work but i dont know which one is better.im looking for something that dont cost to much. my system is

p3 600mhz (can be overclock to 900mhz)
asus p3v4x mb
asus agp v-6600 deluxe 32mb sgram
256mb pc150 cas2 ram
18 maxtor gig hard drive
13.6 wd gig hard drive
52x creative cd-rom
8x4x32x hp burner

What are you using to input the video? VCR? Camera? Do you have a digital Camera or can you only do analog input? If you have a digital input device, firewire is a fairly inexpensive solution.

Your bottleneck may be your hard drives. Do you have a dedicated 'video' drive?

It has to be SCSI as IDE isn't fast enough, but I use IDE Raid with two 40gb Maxtors to get the extra speed. Works a treat with the Pinnacle DV500.

There are 3 factors to take into account:

1) Capturing/Importing
2) Applying Effects - Converting
3) Playback

Which one(s) are you having trouble with? The card will greatly affect your ability for the first 2 factors. Matrox cards are renowned to have top-notch video editing capapbilities. You need one of these if you plan on applying some serious effects in real-time. Of course, these cards are geared towards professional work and are a bit more expensive.

On the other hand, there's ATI. ATI cards have the best capture components available under $300. However, like the GeForce2 card that you have, there's not much for applying effects. Even with the right software (Adobe Premiere), you have to wait forever to apply any complex effects.

Bottom Line:

Simple Video Editing: Just about any capture card (ATI All-In-Wonder preferred)

Complex Video Editing: Any capture card, but you need the right software (Premiere, Pinnacle Studio, etc)

Professional Editing: Matrox level card that can process in real-time
