vi .profile How-To?

I am running AIX 5L with GUI... How do I go about getting it to read my .profile because any changes that i make to the .profile are not recognized, also the contents of my .profile is empty other then what I have added into it... :-(

Check your .dtprofile. At the very end, you may see this:
#DTSOURCEPROFILE=true

Delete the # and any spaces (if there are any) and then log back in.

Check /etc/security/.profile. This is the .profile that is distributed to all new users. If it was empty when you set up the user, then the user's .profile will be empty.

The /etc/profile is the file that is run before users' own .profile is run.
 
Which shell are you logging in with ?
.profile is read by bourne shell and kshell but not by csh
 
Are you sure that into /etc/passwd/password the work directori or login directori for your user is the same were you stay.?
 
I am logged in as root on the korn shell this is a fresh install of aix 5L
