We have been using VFPPING.DLL to determine Internet connection in our large VFP app for 11 years, across multi Windows platforms. However, we are now finding that the Windows-8 computers are returning a .F. which results in our "... no internet connection..." message when attempting to Check for Updates.

Is there something specific in Win-8 that is causing this? We don't have source for VFPPING.DLL.

We could redesign our method of detecting an internet connection, but would like to keep our current code if the solution is a simple Win-8 setting.

Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanx.

Where does this DLL come from? Was it part of Foxpro in an older version?

If it's from UT ( there is an answer:

Notice that the functions in icmp.dll are not considered part of the Win32 API and will not be supported in future releases.

So you better not use this DLL.

How about using this?
Bye, Olaf.

Thanks Olaf ... I suspected something in VFPPING was no longer available in Win8.
I will redo the code as in your link.
Again ... your response is much appreciated.
