Would appreciate any input ...

We have a client running our multiuser app in two locations.
They decided they would like to access same data from both locations.

Office1 is primary location with data server and runs fine.

Office2 can access office1 but cannot run our app if someone at office1 is using app. Office2 can run the app if the app is not running or being used at office2.

I have no VPN experience but sounds strange to me ... any clues?

Thanks,
Tony

Thanks for your response ..
The error is "access denied"

Further ..
My users execute program files locally and are mapped to data server in config.fpw file. Its my understanding that on Win2003 Terminal Server ALL programs and execution are done on the server and client is only emulating the server.
Does this help? Could the attrib setting affect and/or cause 'access denied'?
Tony

Terminal services is not the same as a WAN.

When running in Terminal services, all programs execute on the server and the workstation becomes nothing more than an expensive screen-scraper like running via PC-Anywhere.

There are known issues (check the MSKB) with terminal services.

Not sure what the heck you mean by "the attrib setting". You haven't given enough information.

If you're getting 'access denied', though, your problem is either SET EXCLUSIVE being wrong on startup, or a permission issue which is a Terminal Server issue and not a VFP issue.

Thanks Dan,

"Not sure what the heck you mean by "the attrib setting". You haven't given enough information."

Not sure if still relevent with VFP but older Foxpro versions required 'read only' attrib for multi user access of single exe file.

Whether accessing files remotely via 'true' VPN connection or locally using a terminal server, if the tables are located on a file server or shared drive, they must be used as shared if they are to be used by more than one application or instance of an application.
Hence the SET EXCLUSIVE OFF or USE MyTable SHARED.
Otherwise, the first app to open the tables will be the only one able to access them.

Thanks Dave,
Is sharing any different on VPN than LAN?
All working fine on LAN so I assume sharing
is OK. Client gets error 1705 when opening
the application.EXE.

If the user is getting that error when they launch the app via terminal services, it is probably the FOXUSER.DBF and FOXUSER.CDX files causing the conflict, since it is another instance of the same app.
Change the attributes to 'read only' for those files and see if that helps.

We don't use Foxuser files.

We use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection between remote computers and our corporate network. Thru this VPN, i can transfer files in windows explorer, and also run our foxpro apps in a terminal services session thru that VPN connection.

The only issues we have had (and there have been many [smile]) have been operating system permissions, and vpn certifications and similar. This is certainly a complex area, and way past my level of knowledge - i just love foxpro - so my hardware techo sorts out all the other connectivity issues.

The only foxpro related issue we needed to address was to point the temporary file location away from the traditional "c:\temp" to "c:\documents and settings\username\temp" so that multiple users accessing the applications via terminal services thru the vpn tunnel would not clash.

The most common solution is H2O!
