VFP6 Slow Response after quit

I have a client that is experiencing extreme slow downs after they quit a VFP6 SP5 app. The are running WIN XP Pro SP2 on P4 3.0 Ghz PCs/512MB RAM with a very lightly loaded Windows 2003 Server and 1Ghz Nics. After running a small VFP6 app the open an Excel spreadsheet and it can take up to a minute to load a small sheet.

I've tested all of the hardware and cabeling. While testing on one of my development PCs with a simular configuration I noticed that after I quit and restarted VFP6 my response was slowing also.

After opening and closing the program, open task manager and verify the vfp6 app is not running as a 'process'. It is possible the program is not closing out properly. This is common with forms that do not have 'clear events' in the 'unload' method of the parent form. (I did this in my more novice days.)

Regards,

Rob

Thanks for your answer but that wasn't it. The application that is running is ACCPAC VisionPoint 10 (SBT). It's been working fine for several years. The slow down just started a few weeks ago. I've run virus and spyware scans and the systems come up clean. Network traffic is under 2% average. I suspect a memory leak, but task manager isn't showing anything out of the ordinary.

I have had this problem with ACCPAC in the past the solution for me in this particular case was to disable "on access" virus scanning for the ACCPAC data directories. Or dbf's and cdx's and id?'s "databases and indexes" this "FIXED" the problem in this case.

Thank you Steve. I've actually disabled and then uninstalled the anti virus software on the PCs that are affected without fixing the problem. I was wondering if maybe it has something to do with the old "Opp Locks" settings on the server? I haven't seen anything about Windows 2003 Server.

Do you have anti-virus on the Server? If the data resides on a server share the "on access" would apply there too. Not just the work stations.

Thanks again Steve. We removed it there also. Since the task manager shows plenty of RAM unused and almost no CPU time being used, I still think that it's a memory leak or a file lock not being released on the server. I'ts also possible that one of Microsoft's recent updates messed with a DLL.

I've noticed a simular problem on one of my development PCs with VFP6. After each build and test the system gets a little slower. This one is connected to my network but all of the activity is being done on the local C drive.
