VFP Memo Field Seem to take forever to process

Greeting !!.

I'm having a routine that reads memo field into a string then looping through each line (Do some string malnipulation) and write it to file output. A memo field that is under 800 lines seem to process rather reasonable. Any record that contains more than 900 lines is very , very slow. There aren't any calculation involved. Does anyone have a solution to this problem with Visual Foxpro 5 through 7.0 ?

Never mind. I found the problem. Visual Foxpro doesn't like a memo field assigned to a variable.

what malnipulation are you doing? looking for a match and replace? correct spelling? string handling in fox is usally very fast, so the method you are using is suspect.

also, your method is not at faul then there are winapi functions that may help. Attitude is Everything
