Hi,

System: hp-ux 11.00 L-class server with 3cpus and 4gb ram
Software: oracle 8.1.7

vmstat and top shows every 5 min:
user sys idle
CPU 1 99 0

this takes about one minute and then it switch back to normal
user sys idle
10 4 86

during this high sys time the server is very slow! Any suggestions?

Thanks

Check your kernel parameters. Oracle needs some of the parameters to be set fairly high. The Oracle Web site should have a list of parameter suggestions. Let me know if you can't find the list, and I'll try to dig up my old list (which was for 8.1.5, but it might help).

Could you run 30 seconds of [tt]vmstat 1[/tt] and post the output please? Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.

Bi,

Can you email me the kernel parameter changes for your Oracle 8.1.5 notes you have. I am installing and supporting Oracle 8 and would love to see what you have?
Very appreciated.

thanks,

Chris
