Hi,
I have created a cube in version 7.3 is it backward compatabile to run on version 7.0
similarily is it compatabile to run Impromtu reports from version 7.3 in impromtu 6.0.
Can anyone help me on this issue?

I am not aware of any Cognos products that are backwards compatible.

I am what I am based on the decisions I have made.

To disagree with DD above a little on backwards compatibility:

Cognos Impromptu will open prior version catalogs and reports (from version 7.3 back to version 6 at least). It will also offer to upgrade them as well. Some catalogs and reports from prior versions cannot be used or upgraded, however, and must be reproduced from scratch. This usually relates to the complexity of the report or catalog.

griffin, I think we're talking about two different types of backward compatability.

According to shrisaianandhi, they want a model that was created in 7.3 to be opened using 7.0.

As far as I am aware, none of the Cognos products have that capability.

I am what I am based on the decisions I have made.

DD,

The second part of his request involves Impromptu report compatibility. That was the part I was addressing.
is it compatabile to run Impromtu reports from version 7.3 in impromtu 6.0.

It's not clear from his request if he is trying to run a Imp 6 report in ver 7.3, or the other way around.

Yep, my interpretation for the whole message was that they are creating files in Series 7, but want to open them with 6. Can't do that.

I am what I am based on the decisions I have made.

hi DD & Dave
I have understood that Impromptu is backward compatable
But how about cubes created in 7.3 can it be opened & used in 6.61.395.0-B

Actually, if DD is correct (and I think he is) you are asking about forward compatibility,(i.e. running a file created with a later version of the software from a prior version) and to my knowledge virtually no product assures you of this.

To clarify:

Scenario 1:
I create an Impromptu Report in 7.3, I will not be able to open it using 6.x.

Scenario 2:
I create an Impromptu Report in 6.0, when attempting to open it in 7.3, I will be prompted to convert. If I choose yes, I will no longer be able to open the catalog or report in 6.0.

Scenario 3:
I create a model in Transformer 7.3, I will not be able to open it using 6.x.

Scenario 4:
I create a model in Transformer 6.0, when attempting to open it in 7.3, I will be prompted to convert. If I choose yes, I will no longer be able to open the model in 6.0.

I am what I am based on the decisions I have made.
