I discovered today that service pack 1 for version 8 is now available (I've downloaded it). I guess this means that version 8 is now in general release and existing customers are free to upgrade to it.

You might like to test it at your site beforehand however! :)

See your reseller for the media. It consists of 3 DVDs:

Disc 1: Windows and Netware (7.28 GB)
Disc 2: Monitor Server (2.90 GB)
Disc 3: Unix, Linux, Macintosh (1.44 GB)

Hey Craig,

Why can't I request Ver. 8 from the website? Being with the AF we have contracts with CommVault and use the Maintenance Advantage page to request new version. But there is no link to request it. Did you go through this when you upgraded?

You can't get it from their web site because it's too big (and probably because they want to have SOME degree of control over who gets it - they probably don't want their software going round the net on general issue to the public!).

But I think the main reason is the size - the main disc you'll need (and perhaps the only disc, since the other 2 have specific uses) is 7.28GB. See your CV sales rep/agent and if they don't have a copy NOW they should have. You should have your own copy from them in only the time it takes for them to get it to you (should be same day if they're physically close enough to you).

Note that I only said that I downloaded the service pack - not the software itself! I obtained my copy of the software from a reseller.

The full Media Kits may not be available yet, I would just suggest you ring your local CV rep and request the media kit that way.

The upgrade is available from Maintenance Advantage then Upgrade Assistance click on the link for Simpana 8.0 Upgrade Assistance. You are able to request an upgrade kit from there. It doesn't actually work yet but the page is there. The kits are in manufacturing right now and expected to be ready for shipment late next week. The link will be activated shortly there after.
