Now i have discovered that Arcserve is essentially painfull!!

Does anyone have experience in Veritas, and Veritas for Exchange 2000?

I am desperate to move away from ca.

Which Veritas Product? We use CA in some offices and Veritas Netbackup Datacenter at the HQ. IMHO NBU is better in stability and performance, Arcserve is better in management, and they both break the same amount and have the same cruddy service, they just break differently. We have been trying out Veritas Backup Exec, but I cant vouch for it at this time.

Whilst Arcserve support may not be the best, a properly configured Arcserve configuration on any type of server always alleviates the need for such pain.

What problems have you been experiencing marcus1234?

In my 5 years in IT, if I have learned a few things about software, it is this: 1) MOST software support sucks, MOST message boards provide the BEST support, and the learning curve for software is vastly different on a product by product basis. As for Arcserve, I used to hate it! But after inheriting it when I got here, I was forced to learn the product, and alot about CA, probably the WORST tech support ever!

NOW, I think I know the product pretty well, but this is only after years of scouring message boards like this one and Google Groups (EXCELLENT!) and through painful troubleshooting. NO THANKS TO CA SUPPORT. That said, I agree with albeaker and TheLad, when properly configured, Arcserve hums along, but needs babysitting (what server/app doesn't?). Would I care to dabble with Veritas' Backup Exec? Not really, as I have heard the same complaints about that product as I have with CA Arcserve; why put myself through torture again?

There is a line from the VietNam movie Full Metal Jacket that fits appropriately here: "Unfortunately, it's a big shit sandwich, all we all gotta' take a bite!"

good luck...
